Multi-subject project: The Ragi Project Group: Epsilon (equivalent to grade 6) Teachers: Kalyani and Roshni Session 1 (2 periods- 40 mins each) a) Discussion about understanding what is favourite or popular, people’s likes and dislikes- how can we find out? Conducting polls and surveys to gather information- newspaper opinion polls, census Types of questions in a survey- closed and open ended, multiple choice b) Quick Demo 1. What is your favourite subject? a) Hindi b) Math c) Science d) Art e) Other 2. What do you feel about Social Studies classes? a) I like it very much b) So-so c) I don’t like it at all -- -- Why? -- -- c) Constructing survey questions to understand school community’s ideas and views about Ragi dishes and inclusion in menu (independent work). Session 2 (2 periods – 40 mins each) Final selection of questions and construction of questions and response sheet Conducting survey and collecting data (Sample size 30; each child to interview 2 people) Session 3 (2 periods – 40 mins each) Tabulating data using tally tables Representing data using bar graphs Discussion about dangers of generalising data (since sample size is 30 and only representative of the total population)
